I found out on another blog that Karo syrup was originally produced to stimulate the appetite. Karo Syrup Ad,
I know on the days that I do eat a candy bar, I am much hungrier later on. Maybe what the ad refers to is the spike in insulin and then the drop- making you hungry.
Another reason to cut candy out....
As if I really need one!

Janette, while stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and working in the Pediatric Clinic, it was customary to tell parents to put Karo syrup in their baby's bottle if the baby wasn't gaining weight.

That is interesting. My dd's friends baby is continually contisipated. She was told to give her dark Karo syrup twice a day to get things moving.
