What does it mean to be a Christian?

Just wondering your thoughts on social justice....

I think that if we were more worried about personal justice, "social justice" would take care of itself. All too often I see "social justice" as a buzz word for government intervention. Unfortunately what I see as a result of government intervention is often less responsibility by both the haves and the have nots. As we who have are taxed to provide for the have nots, we figure we've done our part when April 15 rolls around. As those who have not get their charity from the government rather than a person, it becomes an entitlement, rather than something to be grateful for (and a little embarrassed that you have to accept).

Jesus told us to be generous, he never told us we could delegate the job to the government

Do you think that the poor choose to be poor?
What do you think of Jesus' sermon on widows and orphans?
How are "we" generous and helping all those within our society without the government? Do you think the LDS system is the way to go? Help the Christians who are poor in your area get out of being poor- forget the rest?
