There is this amazing job listed...

on the web tonight.
It is the prep and debrief of 4-6th grade DC students.
They will be touring the monuments and museums.
How many times have I been in each of those museums?
How many students have I taken there virtually?
How many virtual work projects have I formulated?
Hundreds? More than Hundreds?
So tempting.
Do you think I could get dh to move?
I could live my dream and just go for it!
Isn't this EXACTLY what I have been saying for 30 years that I would like to do?

Paying for hair color

My husband thought it would be good if I let my hair go gray.
Haven't seen my real hair color in about ten years (or more).
Might be dark brownish and gray at this point.
The color auburn is so much more appealing to me.
Two days of substituting a month is worth it:>)
Just not ready to go gray---yet!

A great map

Here is a great map of all the places we have lived.
This does not include all the places we lived in between where we lived:>)

Fun!

The frog on our window

Nightly this little frog appears on the front window to get a bite to eat.
He is about 1 1/2 inches long.
Can you see the yellow in his hind legs?
Tried looking him up.
Hoping Christina reads this one....

Back to "normal"

Followed this smiling van for a while

Home from my drive to Maryland. It was a long and beautiful three days! If anyone questions that the US isn't mostly rural- they have never traveled the heartland before.

Prayer

I was reading some of my favorite blogs.
This is one that warms my heart
http://www.lifeingraceblog.com/
Today she did a passage from the Lutheran Daily Prayer.
Funny that today I uncovered my daily prayer book
I think I am getting a hint
Don't worry so much about the rules
and get back to the centering prayer
that has been the rock
throughout your life.
Hummmm

Round trip

They have been here three weeks on Friday
and now will be returning to their new/old home
It will be quiet in the house
No more
"Morning Nana
Come get me
I am awake"
from the downstairs
early in the morning
No more
"We see the fire truck?"
with a wishful voice
There is always SKYPE.
But it will not be the same

Four Years

Time goes by slowly and quickly
We put our fingers in to grasp it
It moves away
We are left with memories
on the tips of our fingers
We want those memories fresh
but as other memories slip past
the memories of our past are shaved off
sometimes leaving an impression
as if time overlapped
Then we hear a word
or touch an emotion
and all those memories crawl
up through our fingers
back into our hearts.

Rest in Peace my brothers and sisters in law

Dentists

After many years I have FINALLY found a dentist who works with me instead of simply checking my teeth. It was a treat to finally fix my front tooth. When I was about seven my sister and I were fighting over the space on the top of our dresser. She pushed hard and a metal bank broke the end off of my brand new front tooth.
For years different dentists have noticed. My dentist cousin shaved off a bit of that tooth and the good tooth next to it- to make them "look better". All that did is make them look tiny.
Today I got a cap. It looks...well...normal.
First day of real retirement (school begins for others today) and I am FINALLY getting some old issues fixed.
Yippee!

Yes we can!

After a long walk at the lake,
chasing sea gulls and watching the boats
We painted and played
Life is good!

Taxes

Tomorrow I get to vote on either doubling my property tax OR raising the sales tax to 9.95%.
What kind of choice is that?
Our city leaders went back and forth to DC a bazillion times to make sure our fort did not close.
Then the last administration deemed it necessary to sale on post housing to the highest bidders. They are allowed to build as many units as they would like.
Instead of taking that into consideration - our city chose to finance roads to new communities that are over priced and single leveled (no basement in an active tornado area?)
Those votes (along with the ones to make lovely walking paths in front of the water treatment plant and boat storage yard) happened with little notice and even less publicity.
Our city (about 25,000 population on a good day) is now....
SEVENTY MILLION in debt!

Update:
Sooooo- I don't get to vote on this issue since it is the CITY people who are going to get hit with the taxes. The county (that would be me) doesn't get a voice because our is going up soooo much less 7 vs 28 Mill levy). I am still soured by the process and the abundant spending on things that are not needed---and then blaming it all on the military. AGGGG!

Let it go bankrupt!

First month on the "retirement" budget

If one eliminates extra expenses for moving daughter's family
we were right on track for the budget!
Even with the family move- we were close.
I like pulling out a set amount of money
monthly for taxes and insurance
That way there isn't a scramble for money
when those become due.
We also have a pull out for
the once or twice a year things
(vet bills, dental bills, pest control)
It doesn't leave much in the swish bucket
but enough to simply enjoy being retired.
After the family leaves
I will be looking into
what type of volunteer work I can
do - but still have time to just
be me:>)
